Arthritis of the back

Arthritis is a term used to describe degenerations of a joint, chronic pain and irritation as well as inflammation. Arthritic conditions are split into 2 groups; degenerative arthritis and inflammatory arthritis. Degenerative arthritis is where cartilage wears down to the bone causing friction and pain, resulting in stiffness and impaired movement. Inflammatory arthritis occurs when the joint swells, leading to pain and possible erosion of the joint if not treated.

Degenerative arthritis is typically treated by attempting to liberate the affected joint, creating a higher degree of freedom. Inflammatory arthritis is treated by attempting to reduce the swelling of the joint and also treatment intended to reduce the chance of the arthritis from returning.

Many people will take a variety of pain relieving drugs to manage the pain in joints affected by arthritis. Aside from conventional prescription drugs, many arthritis sufferers use a range of supplements, herbal creams and alternative therapies to address the pain.
